The Making of a Diamond Willow Walking Stick

Our Diamond Willow wood grows in Northern Ontario where the stresses placed on this particular variety of willow results in the reddish/brown diamond shaped sections. While some of the diamonds are visible when harvesting the stick, many are not. It is only when the bark is peeled away, that the diamonds can be seen. Each diamond is hand tooled to expose the true beauty with many shapes, sizes and twists that make each Diamond Willow Walking Stick uniquely different. The craftsman sands each individual diamond and the shaft, with most of the work being done by hand. The final sanding is done with 600 grit sandpaper to ensure a smooth silky finish. Numerous coats of clear-gloss Varathane finish are applied until the walking stick is protected and the appearance is one of a beautifully finished piece of exotic wood. A rubber foot is then fitted to all walking sticks and canes. Optional attachments are available such as a leather thong, feathers, beads and a compass.
